…giving good service to the village cottage industry in our america and collaborating in an indigeous spirit

Dear friend, it is always stimulating to receive one of your letters.
Your entire lifetime in the jewelry business and experience
in manufacturing and especially your native indigenous
background and outlook… it is an honor.

Subject: the upgrade of artisan production technology
and overall productivity of our local cottage industry
Really this technology/infusion coming from your lifelong
experience with jewelry manufacture in Providence Rhode Island,
and all you have learned from your lapidary factory in Vietnam.
This is a wonderful idea to bring this back home to America,
and to the native american people.
It is perfectly understandable that the tribal chiefs who are
your customers (among many others) are willing to pay
1/2 up-front and 1/2 upon delivery and inspection.
these are very normal terms
To the extent to which the artisans retain their independence,
they are poor. Only when he has a steady customer does
the craftsman have the possibility of supporting his family.
Otherwise, orders here and there don’t really work at all,
and he goes to the united states with his cousins.

We have dozens – hundreds – of skilled abalone shell workers
who are out in Chicago and Arizona; i know a lot of them,
their mothers sisters their children and their wives,
a lot of these men would return to their village
and their family, …if they knew there was going to be steady
work for them.
No such hope is offered by a normal commercial deal.
Structured in terms that only a wholesaler,
(a handcrafted-product consolidator) operates in terms
of. The kind of normal business proposition
isn’t suitable if it does not serve the artisans themselves,
the families and prospects of the children.
New World Women, however, is designed to serve the same
purpose of getting the products marketed and to penetrate
the markets on a deep and continuing level in order that
employment opportunities in our villages begin to grow,
and continue to steadily grow as the artisans
and the community advance.
The way it works is we begin to seek an appropriate
NWW distributor to interface the artisans and chiefs
(when i say “chiefs” i mean the tribal chiefs you represent,
also any of your other commercial customers)
Actually, “you” should be the NWW distributor because
this person will end up making a lot of money,
But, if you do not have the $ to swing it, then
this is where the NWW distributor comes into the picture.

We would like for this NWW model
to reproduce to other native artisan groups in Mexico,
and around Ibero-america. and there is NO reason
why it should not, since NWW will very notably drive
the success of the artisans.
Also the NWW, by eliminating the commercial middle-men,
allows the customers to get the products at the absolutely
lowest prices which should finally be no more than 30% over
the labor plus materials.
This is the way to do it on the kind of production scale
you have indicated are the size of your markets already
established for the faceted shell and stone cabachons
and beads you produce over in vietnam.
OK brother! really good; we are definitely on our way
to something important and worthy of our energies
giving good service to the village cottage industry
in our america and collaborating in an indigeous spirit.
With love and friendly greetings from Taxco de Alarcón, Guerrero , México
